Property & Casualty Renewal Underwriter

- Where are you from?

  • I am originally from Vermont, but my family moved to Raleigh in 2006. App State was my first choice when I was looking at colleges because Boone reminds me of Vermont, but still offers the benefit of four seasons.

- What is your alma mater?

  • I graduated from the RMI program at App State in 2018. After graduation, I worked on the carrier side of the industry until October of 2020 when I relocated back to Boone and joined the team at JSA.

- What do you enjoy most about your job title and/or company?

  • I am currently a Property & Casualty Renewal Underwriter at JSA- my favorite aspect of my role is the relationship fostering and communications I have with my agents. I enjoy being able to help find solutions for agents that benefit their insureds. When I have to decline a risk, I like to be able to educate the agent as to why their risk is not a fit for JSA, instead of just telling them no. Every day involves a different type of risk and is not the same as yesterday. I enjoy coming to work at JSA every day because of our culture and my coworkers. We all work extremely hard, but we also have a lot of fun- we even mention that in our Mission Statement. I take pride in working for a company that gives back to the local community and wants to be as involved with Boone and App State as possible.

- What are some things a mentee should know about you?

  • My hobbies include skiing, pretty much anything that has to do with cars, and traveling. I'm a huge dog person. I have two golden retrievers and I spend as much time with them as possible. I love taking them on hikes, going to Lowes, and taking them to breweries. I didn't change my degree to RMI until the second semester of my Junior year, which meant taking almost all of the required insurance classes my Senior year. I regret not changing my major earlier, but I am glad that I did and I have enjoyed being in the industry since graduation. I'm outgoing- I like to be a resource for others and I also like to learn from others' stories and experiences.
