Students
Consider a Major or Minor in Risk Management & Insurance
The insurance industry employs over 2.3 million people in the U.S. alone, yet RMI graduates across the nation only fill a fraction of its growing demand. Career opportunities span areas like claims, underwriting, actuarial science, sales, HR, IT, and more, each offering different work environments—office, remote, field work, etc.
Due to the wealth of opportunities and the strength of the App State RMI program, 98% of student find work or attend graduation school with 6 months of graduation. Generally these students are making a salary of $55k-$65k, with our highest earners making $70k+! Hear what some of our successful App State graudates have to say.
How the Brantley Center Can Help
A benefit RMI students have is access to the Brantley Risk and Insurance Center. The Brantley Center is a specialized department in the College of Business, dedicated to helping students who are interested in the insurance and risk management field. The Center is committed to developing the finest insurance talent and involves students with industry professionals many times throughout the year by arranging guest speakers, shadow days, and travel opportunities including the Independent Insurance Association of North Carolina (IIANC) Conference and the annual Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS) Conference. The Center also co-hosts an extensive career fair twice a year allowing students unparalleled access to employers regarding internships and full-time career opportunities. Scholarships are available for all RMI majors regardless of rank with approximately $100,000 awarded annually. A large number of committed donors have continued to make these scholarships possible.
The Brantley Risk and Insurance Center has been awarded the Global Centers of Insurance Excellence (GCIE) designation by the International Insurance Society (IIS) for its highly ranked risk management and insurance program.
The designation is awarded to universities with outstanding risk management and insurance programs, and in selecting designees, the society considers such factors as accreditation, curriculum, involvement with industry and faculty qualifications.
