Student Spotlight: Sienna Sigmon

This month's student spotlight is rising senior, Sienna Sigmon! Sienna is from Taylorsville, NC and will graduate next May. She was recently awarded a large scholarship from the Spencer Education Foundation and is one of the highest achieving students in the major. Her major is Risk Management and insurance and she is minoring in Dance. Outside of school, Sienna loves to dance, spend time with friends and family, and go out on the lake.

Sienna was drawn to the RMI program because the field offers so many different career paths and opportunities while teaching real-world knowledge. She wanted to major in something more specific than general business and knew that if she majored in RMI, it would almost guarantee a job upon graduation and provide her with a stable career. Sienna's favorite part of the RMI program is the great support offered to students while in the classroom as well as beyond. Sienna said "I don’t feel like just a number and every professor goes the extra mile to ensure student success. They invest time into their students on an academic and personal level. Another huge plus about the RMI program is the Brantley Center. The Brantley Center is always there to help and provides students with great resources and connections. Not all majors have a center like this one. It’s evident why App State’s RMI program is top-notch and nationally ranked".

Sienna was the Gamma Iota Sigma Rho chapter Co-VP of Events last year, and will repeat that role this coming school year. When asked why she joined GIS, Sienna said "I am a part of Gamma Iota Sigma because it provides a great opportunity where I’m able to network and surround myself with industry professionals. GIS provides the connections to be able to learn from and engage with those who once were in my shoes and are now professionals in the field. It also allows me to meet, connect, and build friendships through GIS events".

After graduation, Sienna sees herself working in the RMI field. Sienna clarified "I will continue to get a solid foundation and soak up as much knowledge and hands-on experience as possible learning all aspects of the industry. I believe having a wide range of experience will set me up for future success. I don’t know what my ideal job will be yet; however, I hope to have a job that keeps me engaged, challenged, and will enable me to use my specific skill set while maintaining the perfect work-life balance.  As Confucius once said, “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” That’s what I intend to do".

This summer, Sienna is interning with Granite Insurance where she will have the opportunity to apply her classroom knowledge to real-life business situations. Sienna is grateful to get this learning experience from such an amazing team of people.

We are so happy to have you in our program Sienna and we hope you have a wonderful senior year!
