A new scholarship has been established through the Brantley Risk and Insurance Center at Appalachian State University by individuals who wished to express their appreciation to Art Lyon for his mentorship and extensive contributions to the insurance industry.
“Art is one of the most creative and innovative minds in the industry, whose down-to-earth personality and humility are perfectly complemented by his unwavering ethics and loyalty. Whether you’re an agent, a customer, a coworker or a stranger, everyone that meets Art is treated with the utmost respect,” said Rick Pierce of National General Insurance.
Surrounded by his family and many donors to the scholarship fund, Lyon was surprised with the announcement of this scholarship at an event in the Winston-Salem offices of National General Insurance on October 9, 2018. "We appreciate the opportunity to recognize Art Lyon and also reward a deserving student with a scholarship," remarked David Marlett, Managing Director of the Brantley Risk and Insurance Center during the October 9 presentation.
The scholarship will help perpetuate a pipeline of talented young people entering the industry and will be awarded annually to a deserving student in the Risk Management & Insurance program at Appalachian State University.
