Brantley Center Faculty present to First Year Student Athletes on Financial Literacy Topics

The Brantley Risk & Insurance Center had the opportunity to get in front of incoming student-athletes at Appalachian State this week to teach them about financial topics that could make a big impact on their futures. Dr. Sabina Pandey presented on personal finance issues for college students, encouraging them to open a bank account, start building a credit score, and think strategically about financing their education. Dr. David Marlett then spoke on personal auto insurance, discussing how to get an auto quote and make sure they have appropriate coverage should an accident occur. Professor Eggers also presented on legal issues college students can sometimes face.

Each of these topics are covered in more depth within courses in the Walker College of Business and students were given more information about how to pursue these topics as a major, should they be interested. Brantley Center Associate Director Lacy Chesnutt also gave them more information about the resources they can access through the Brantley Center to get help on resumes, gain professional travel experience, and secure internships, scholarships, and jobs upon graduation.

The Brantley Risk and Insurance Center is proud to be a part of the first-year student-athlete preparatory program and wishes them a successful year ahead. Go Neers!
