A dozen Appalachian State University (AppState) Risk Management & Insurance and Actuarial Science majors, along with Professors Jamie Parson and Lori Medders, traveled to Raleigh October 6 to meet with the new NC Department of Insurance (NCDOI) Commissioner Mike Causey and his staff. During the day the students heard from a panel of key staff to the General Assembly led by Paul Coble. They learned about the bill writing process, budget development, compliance and legal challenges legislators face in the creation of a bill. Other highlights of the day included a tour of the new Department of Insurance building where they met with Commissioner Causey and several members of his staff.
