Careers & Internships
The Brantley Center is committed to helping App State students prepare for successful careers in Risk Management and Insurance (RMI). Whether you’re seeking an internship or a full-time position, we provide resources, events, and connections to guide you every step of the way.
Career Paths

- Risk Management & Loss Control – Identify and mitigate risks for businesses.
- Agents & Brokers – Sell and place insurance, advise clients on risk.
- Underwriting – Analyze data to assess risk and set coverage terms.

Career Planning Resources
Resume & Cover Letter Guides
Crafting a strong resume and tailored cover letter is essential. Many students do not have direct insurance experience during college and employers recognize that, so be sure to highlight your transferrable skills and traits to show your willingness to learn adn how you’ll be successful for their organization.
Business Career Services have crafted resume guides and cover letter guides to help students learn how to format these documents. If you have questions, please reach out to Dillon Waschenbach at waschenbachd@appstate.edu.
Interview Preparation
Interviewing can be nervewracking and tricky, but with practice and a few helpful tips you can make sure you’re prepared. Students will usually see “behavioral questions” that help companies get to know you, so practice framing your responses using the S.T.A.R. Method. Be sure to also take advantage of tools like Big Interview, for virtual practice, as well as the worksheets and practice questions provided by Business Career Services.
If you have questions or want to practice interviewing, please contact Dillon Waschenbach at waschenbachd@appstate.edu.
Internship and Job Search
The insurance and risk management industry tends to hire early for internships and full-time positions, with many programs opening in August-October. Start your search at the beginning of the fall semester and plan to attend the Walker Business Connections career fair, the largest fair we host.
While there are generally more positions available in the fall, opportunities can arise anytime throughout the year. Staying proactive and networking regularly are key for this relationship-focused industry. Make sure you stay in contact with the Brantley Center team for updates on new roles.
Job Boards
- Handshake – Specifically for students looking for internships and entry-level positions.
